On August 26, 2026, a catastrophic mountain collapse and debris surge—referred to by officials as a "Himalayan tsunami"—struck central Nepal along the border region. A massive avalanche of ice and rock thundered down the valley, causing severe flash flooding that swept away entire villages, bridges, and infrastructure. The surge has left over 1,300 people dead and more than 5,600 missing, creating an urgent humanitarian crisis for remote mountain communities.

Emergency crews are racing against time to locate survivors, clear debris, and provide critical assistance to thousands of displaced families.
