Why Royal Rugs?

 Gyurme and his dad Kalsang Choewang, making Rug is not a profession, it is TRADITION. Gyurme grew up in a rug family helping his dad while going to high school in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is a second generation rug producer.​

Gyurme's dad, Kalsang Choewang, is one of the pioneer in establishing Rug Industry in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Kalsang, 78, was trained as a first Rug designer in Nepal for Red Cross operating carpet factory for Tibetan Refugees in Kathmandu, Nepal. 

Making carpets has been tradition passed on from generation to generation. it was Gyurme's dad who chose to be rug producer. Here in this National geography Magazine, world famous photographer Steve McCurry, took picture of my dad in the factory. It was published in April 2002 Issue.

About Gyurme

Gyurme came for higher education in the US. Gyurme completed his bachelor in Marketing major and has been working in family business for the last 20 plus years.


Gyurme has been participating in the trade shows in High Point, NY Gift Shows and Las Vegas Furniture Market for the last 20 years.


Gyurme visits customers and work with them on projects all the time. he also travels overseas to factory to meet works and also pay visit to his parents, family members , friends and monasteries.

Gyurme also works with professionals in various industries such as Ahmed, who is rug restoration specialist. he can repair rugs, repair rugs and any in-between.
